Wednesday July 27th had two prime objectives....
The first objective: tour the Roman City of Chester. The second objective: play in a friendly game against the Randlay Colts.
Our day started with a drive down to Chester. Chester began as a Roman fort back around 75 AD next to the River Dee. The Roman fort grew into a larger settlement eventually with craftsman, families, butchers, bakers, blacksmiths, etc. Around the 4th century the Roman settlement broke down. In the middle ages a battle was fought in Chester between the Welsh & the Saxons - the Saxons won. To this day many of the buildings still stand.
Chester was an adorable town. We started off at the north gate and walked through the town to the center of town. Then walked the town walls and heard all the history of the town, the structures (a lot that are still existing), and how the town has changed since the original Roman settlement through the middle ages.

After our trip to Chester, we headed out to the location of our friendly game against the Randlay Colts. On the US Revolution team we have two goal keepers - each playing half a game. They flipped a coin and Brad got the second half. This was actually the first time the whole team (US players + our 3 UK players) have played together at the same time. We didn't do half bad. We ended up in a 1-1 draw and the boys played hard against an older team. Brad played excellent and didn't let any balls get by him. After the game, the Randlay Colts hosted a little social get together for the boys at a local pub.
I'm about a day behind on my posts. We have been starting early and ending late. I still want to share a bit of the history around our last hotel (Cranage Hall) and what we did Thursday. More to come!
