Cathedral Quilt - The Beginning

My Granny used to make cathedral quilts by hand. She made one for all of her children and I was lucky enough to get one as well. I always loved looking at them. The different fabric in each window often told a story or brought back a memory for me. My Granny would usually make the quilt out of old clothing scraps or sheets...so her quilts always had a little bit of her (or my grandad) in them. I was hoping to take some of my grandmother's old clothing and make a quilt, unfortunately they were taken to goodwill before my aunt could pull them for me.
My quilt that Granny made me.

When she and my Grandad lived in Long Beach (mid-80's) she showed me how to make the blocks for this quilt. I had long since forgotten but I found a blog which helped me to familiarize myself with the process again. I found some fabric on sale at Joann's to try a test quilt on.
I'm not too crazy about all the fabric - or the color combo right now - but we'll see how it turns out. I have to apologize for the ugly quality of the photos (again). I used my phone to take these - and I must have either had my glasses off or been on some pretty powerful pain killers at the time (or a combo of both) to think these were in focus when I took them.

I'm in the process of folding the squares still. Unfortunately my iron broke (fell off a shelf magically) and I'll need to get a new one this weekend to continue making the squares. I'll share photos as the quilt progresses! Wish me luck :)

Good Luck! Can't wait to see your progress. Quilts are low on my list because my MIL makes them like crazy!
