One that stuck out to me was the 2002 "pinup wreath" (page 78). I usually line my breakfast bar with the holiday cards we receive for that year. The clutter of cards gets annoying to me (and destroys the holiday cheer). This is a cute and easy project!
What you'll need:
- wooden embroidery hoop (size is your choice based on what your needs are)
- wooden clothes pins
- hot glue gun
- ribbon
Quick Side story on the wooden embroidery hoop...When I came home from Joann Fabrics with the large hoop...my hubby asked "What's that for?" Without blinking I answered "Oh...I'm going to teach Cleo (our cat) how to jump through a flaming hoop." My husband looked at me with a bit of terror and a little bit of intrigue. Obviously, I was kidding :)
Martha used the natural color of the wood and the clothes pins with a red and white ribbon. I spray painted my embroidery wreath white. Because I was using a red cross grain ribbon and red clothes pins, I didn't want it to look too candy cane-ish. So I sanded down some of the edges & wiped over the white hoop with Smoke Glaze by Ralph Lauren. Gave it a little bit of an aged look. Next I glued the red dyed clothes pins alternating the opening going in and out so the cards wouldn't bunch together when clipped up on the wreath. Last I added the ribbon to the top to hang on the shelf in the entry way of my house. One learning is - be sure you get wide enough ribbon. I didn't and that was the biggest disappointment with how it turned out. But I'm pretty satisfied. Thanks Martha!
